“Do you not know that if you offer yourselves to someone as
obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey - either of sin leading to
death or of obedience leading to righteousness?”
Romans 5:19

It is 10:00 at night. The kids are tucked into their beds and I am ready to crawl into
mine with a good book. Then I feel it, the call to write. To be completely honest
with you, a part of me wants to ignore it and snuggle in for the night. Another part
knows the importance of obedience.
Romans 5:19 “For just as through one man’s disobedience the many were made
sinners, so also through the one man’s obedience the many will be made
righteous.”
Romans 6:16 “Do you not know that if you offer yourselves to someone as
obedient slaves, you are slaves of that one you obey - either of sin leading to
death or of obedience leading to righteousness?”
The words above are sobering. Jesus was obedient to His Heavenly Father to the
point of death. He could have turned away. Even as He faced impending death He
took the time to pray for His disciples and all who believe in Him.
John 17:21 “May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. May
they also be one in Us, so the world may believe You sent Me.”
“So the world may believe...” We may believe that Jesus came to save us. He was
sent by His Father, God, in order to take the punishment for our sin. Through the
death and resurrection and obedience of Christ we are saved from our sin and will
experience eternal life.
The importance of obedience did not end with the cross. Believers today are called
to listen for the voice and leading of God and to be obedient when we hear His call.
Here I am writing...what is God calling you to do?
