“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7

As we look around this world and the many troubles in it, it is easy to forget about the power of God. The media and those around us are often focused on strife and the problems facing us. It is easy to become discouraged and overwhelmed.
Ecclesiastes 1:9 states, “There is nothing new under the sun.” Solomon, in his search for wisdom and the meaning of life, determined that there is truly nothing new in this life. Nehemiah lived around 2500 years ago and experienced many troubles in his time. He is an example of how to faithfully trust in God and do the work He has called us to do.
Although God called Nehemiah to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, he faced opposition. Nehemiah could have thrown up his hands, walked away and said, “This is too hard for me, find someone else.” Instead, he remained faithful to the call God had on his life even when the pressures surrounding him seemed insurmountable. The same is true for Moses and other people in the Bible God called to do His work. A call or directive from God does not equal easy sailing. Living on this earth doesn’t either.
One of the characteristics of God is His faithfulness. We can always trust Him. When life is overwhelming and circumstances seem bleak, our faithful and sovereign God is still on His throne. Whatever comes our way God has promised to walk through it with us. We can trust God more than we can trust our own ideas and emotions.
Let us live with our eyes on Christ and be obedient to what He calls us to do. As we draw our last breath, let it be said of us:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7
