Running in the Dark

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people

for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of

Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”

1 Peter 2:9

ree

The night was pitch black. There was no moonlight in our farmyard and

I was running. Running fast across the yard and loving it because even

in the darkness I knew every inch of the yard.

All of the sudden, I ran into something! The impact was so hard that I

was knocked off of my feet and I reeled backwards onto the ground.

Running full speed I ran right into a combine in the middle of our yard.

The combine was out of place and shouldn’t have been there!

What a terrible feeling to go from feeling on top of the world to having

a swelling face from impact with thousands of pounds of steel and the

wind knocked out of me.

Life is sometimes like that. Everything is going well then, there is a job

loss, a diagnosis, a death, an eviction, etc. Life knocks us to our knees

like running straight into a combine in the dark.

In these life situations we need a real solution to our problems...Christ

Jesus. He is our rock and our ever present help in times of trouble. No

one escapes trials and troubles in this life. We must lean into the one

who promises to be with us and bear our burdens when life feels hard.

Things happen in life. Combines get parked where we don’t expect

them, people let us down, but in all of this Christ is there to pick us up

and lead us out of the darkness into His marvelous light.
