Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change.
2 Peter 3:9 (MSG)
It is harvest time in North Dakota. Harvest is an absolutely beautiful time of year. Temperatures cool, leaves change and there are all kinds of fun fall activities.
Harvest is also a time when farmers are putting in long hours in the fields. There is a window of time to get the crops harvested. The weather conditions must be right and the crops need to be in the right stage of development. If we wait too long the crop yields can suffer or snow can move in and cover the fields.
Hours and days get long in the fields. The focus is getting harvest done and getting the crop to the bin or the elevator. Everything else in life is on hold until the crop is harvested. Then there is time to rest. The work is hard but very rewarding.
In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus says, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Just as farmers are diligent in harvesting their crops, we as followers of Christ must be diligent in prayer for the souls of others, for missionaries and pastors, and for ourselves and how we can share the gospel. It is wonderful that we get to be a part of God’s harvest on earth!
The time of the harvest on earth is limited. There are many people who need to hear the message of salvation and the mercy and love of Christ. The harvest work we have to do in Christ’s kingdom is both challenging and rewarding. Let’s join together as the church in diligence and one day in heaven we will celebrate the fruits of the harvest together.
